Today, 26th June 2026, the leadership of Ijesa Youth Forum paid a courtesy visit to the Ayeso Police Area Command Headquarters to discuss pressing security concerns affecting Ijesa land and explore avenues for collaboration in ensuring lasting peace.
Key issues discussed during the meeting included the recent killings reported in some parts of Ijesa land and their impact on the kingdom, incidents of political violence in parts of Ilesa, and the growing rumours about the possible infiltration of bandits disguising themselves as gold miners. The Forum also emphasized the need for effective collaboration between the youth and the Nigeria Police Force to guarantee the safety of lives and property before, during, and after the forthcoming governorship election.
In a statement jointly signed by iyf General Secretary and Spokesperson,
,Fagbowore Medayese and Joy Adebimpe BEPO, the Forum urged the Police Command to remain steadfast in ensuring that perpetrators of crimes are promptly arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others. The leadership also appealed to the Command not to succumb to pressure from political actors seeking the release of arrested offenders.
Furthermore, Ijesa Youth Forum commended the Ayeso Area Command for its dedication and the measures already put in place to maintain peace and security across Ilesa and other communities under its jurisdiction.
In his response, the Area Commander appreciated the leadership of Ijesa Youth Forum for the thoughtful visit and pledged the Command’s continued commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the area. He encouraged young people to support the Police by providing timely and credible information that would aid effective policing and crime prevention.
The meeting also addressed complaints regarding the alleged extortion of commercial motorcycle riders by some police officers. The Area Commander assured the Forum that such misconduct would not be tolerated and urged members of the public to report any officer caught engaging in extortion to the Area Command for appropriate disciplinary action.
It noted that Ijesa Youth Forum remains committed to partnering with all relevant stakeholders to promote peace, security, and sustainable development across Ijesa land.
