Nigeria has joined other countries and organisations around the world to mark the 2026 Nigeria Clean-Up Day, an initiative aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness, proper hygiene and healthy living.
The exercise, held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in Osogbo, Osun State, was organised by the African Clean-Up Initiative, Osun State Chapter, in conjunction with Origin Man, a proud partner of the Osun-Osogbo Festival, and with support from the United Nations Information Centre, UNIC, Abuja.

Speaking with journalists, the Deputy Coordinator of the African Clean-Up Initiative, Osun State Chapter, Bukola Ejiade, alongside Environmental and Climate Change Activist, Oluwaseyi Abiola, said the exercise was designed to promote environmental sanitation, cleanliness and the creation of a healthy and conducive environment for residents.
According to Thecasternews, The duo, who led other volunteers, visited several locations, including markets, places of worship and motor parks, where they carried out sanitation activities and sensitised residents on the importance of maintaining proper hygiene and keeping their surroundings clean.

They also urged residents across Osun State to take environmental cleanliness seriously and support government efforts towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Speaking on the recent flooding affecting parts of the state, the volunteers sympathised with affected households and communities and called on the Osun State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and other relevant agencies to provide the necessary assistance to those affected.

Highlights of the Clean-Up Day activities included the cleaning of public spaces and other strategic locations across various Local Government Areas of Osun State.
