Speaking with thecasternews on the state of insecurity in the country, Security Consultant and Criminologist, Prince Olaoye Emmanuel Adebowale, noted that while the successful rescue of kidnapping victims often brings relief and demonstrates the capability of security agencies, it also raises important questions about how such successes can be replicated to prevent future crimes.

According to him, every successful rescue operation proves that intelligence gathering, coordination, and rapid deployment of resources can produce positive outcomes when effectively utilized. He argued that the challenge lies in consistently applying these capabilities to reduce the frequency of kidnappings and other violent crimes across the country.

Adebowale observed that insecurity has become a daily reality for many Nigerians, with families altering travel plans, farmers abandoning farmlands, businesses increasing security spending, and communities living in constant uncertainty.

He emphasized that while rescue missions remain important, prevention should be the primary objective of the nation’s security strategy. He advocated for intelligence-led policing, stronger community intelligence networks, early threat detection systems, technology-driven surveillance, enhanced collaboration among security agencies, swift prosecution of offenders, and greater citizen participation in security awareness.

The security expert further stated that criminals often exploit intelligence gaps and vulnerabilities within communities, making it necessary for society to become more informed and proactive in addressing security threats.

He maintained that successful rescue operations should not only be celebrated but carefully studied to identify lessons that can strengthen preventive security measures.

“The goal should not simply be to rescue more victims. The goal should be to create an environment where fewer people become victims in the first place,” he said.

Adebowale concluded that Nigeria’s ongoing conversation on security must focus on building a safer society where effective prevention reduces the need for rescue operations.
